Hyderabad: The Telangana government has released an additional Rs90 crore for land acquisition to expedite the construction of the Warangal Airport at Mamnoor. The move is part of the state’s broader strategy to expand aviation infrastructure by establishing new airports in two to three districts beyond Hyderabad.

The proposal received cabinet approval, marking a significant step toward developing regional air connectivity in the state. The government had earlier sanctioned Rs205 crore for land acquisition, and with this new release, the total funding now stands at Rs295 crore.

The airport project already has 696 acres of available land. However, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) identified a requirement for an additional 280.3 acres for runway expansion, construction of an Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, and terminal building development. The government’s latest fund release will be used specifically to acquire this additional land.

AAI has given its approval for the project and assured the state government that it will take responsibility for both the airport’s development and operational expenses once construction begins. The authority has also submitted a detailed project report outlining the planned facilities and technical specifications.
